Lake Ihema in Rwanda

The spectacular Lake Ihema is the second biggest lake in Rwanda after Lake Kivu and is located in the eastern part of Rwanda in the present-day Kayonza district. This magnificent lake is located at the border of Uganda and Tanzania and it covers an area of approximately 100 kilometers squared. It is home to various wildlife species that live within it and the ones that come to the shores to drink water or shower themselves.

Attractions at Lake Ihema.

The ambient lake has a range of wonderful attractions that encourage visitors to travel from all parts of the world to come and spend time there and this encompasses the following;

Marvelous rare bird species that can only be found in the vicinity of this lake and its surroundings. These range from popular shoebills, malachite kingfishers, grey crowned cranes and secretary, birds name them.

The contemporary views of the lake on the forests in the surroundings are also worth the effort and attract many visitors in the name of tourism.

Wildlife. Several wildlife species that live in Akagera National Park often pass by this magnificent lake to drink water and it’s here that opportunities to view them by visitors are offered. The animals include hippos, elephants, rhinos, leopards, jackals, servals and lions.

The picturesque lake offers opportunities for various touristic activities that visitors often find themselves indulged in for better experiences and these incorporate;

Boat safaris. Visitors often go for boat excursions at this magnificent lake they take them a minimum of three hours and could possibly go up to 8 hours which offers opportunities to view the beautiful sceneries of the lake and the forests in the vicinity. Bird watching. It is important to note that being next to forests, the lake provides water to various bird species ranging from shoebills, kingfishers, and cinnamons to egrets that fly over the water, drink and hunt worms therein at the shores

Being in the vicinity of Akagera National Park, the league avails opportunities to visitors to see wonderful wild species on their hunts while others are being hunted in the National Park. Picnicking and relaxation. The culture of picnics has also taken shape in recent years at the lake. This is because of the ambient aura at the lake that gives a nice atmosphere for visitors looking for relaxation in natural areas.

Nature walks. Engaging nature walks are done too at the lake’s vicinity Since there are natural places such as lush vegetation, and beautiful thick tropical rainforests that offer relaxation opportunities to visitors as they appreciate nature.

Camping. This is yet another exciting activity that has taken shape in the past decade after the lake. It is normally done by the digital nomads who prefer creating unusual content and updating it at all times.

Photography. This activity is also done by visitors combined with cinematography due to the beautiful scenery at the lake.

Conservation activities are also taking shape at this captivating lake which is an exciting opportunity for future generations. Natural areas are being conserved as the government of Rwanda in cooperation with the World Bank has designated areas in the past years, especially for gorilla conservation and tropical rainforests.
