Situated in the southwest of Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park spans around 331 square kilometers. This is renowned for its almost a half (over 400) of the total population of mountain gorillas in the world. Additionally, the species of birds number over 350 and these include African broadbill, mountain masked apalis, Shelley’s apalis, and handsome francolin. There are also a variety of wild animals such as elephants, buffaloes, duikers, bush pigs and monkeys. All these animal species live in the diverse habitats including tropical forest, montane forest and swamps. The vegetation is also composed of dense undergrowth, such as ferns, herbs and shrubs etc.
This is situated in the southwest of Uganda and it is the most popular tour destination in the country. Queen Elizabeth National Park spans 1,978 square kilometers with habitats such as savannah grassland, woodland, swamps, forests, lakes and rivers. These habitats house a variety of wildlife including 14,000 species of plants, 95 species of mammals and over 600 species of birds. Mammals include leopards, lions, topi, Uganda kobs, buffalos, elephants, hippos and chimpanzees. Bird species include palm-nut vulture, African fish eagle, swamp flycatcher, collared pratincole and shoebill.
This destination is situated in the west of Uganda and renowned as the ‘Primate Capital of the World,’ spanning approximately 795 square kilometers. Kibale National Park is endowed with dense tropical rainforest, and also a biodiversity hotspot. There are 13 species of primates that call Kibale National Park home. These include the L’hoest’s monkeys, chimpanzees, olive baboons, vervet monkeys, red colobus monkeys, bushbabies, black and white colobus monkeys and grey-cheeked mangabeys. It has the largest population of chimpanzees in Uganda, numbering over 1,400. Also, Kibale National Park has 350 species of trees, 71 mammal species, and 370 bird species. Mammals include bushbucks, elephants, warthogs, buffaloes and sitatungas. Birds include little greenbul, African pitta, and blue-breasted kingfisher.
Is situated in the northwest of Uganda and renowned for the Murchison Falls, which is a powerful waterfall on the Nile River. The park vegetation is dominated by savannah grasses and woodland. The Nile River divides Murchison Falls National Park into the northern and southern sectors. There are over 450 bird species, including the shoebill, grey crowned crane, goliath heron, giant kingfisher, swamp flycatcher, African jacana, and Abyssinian ground hornbill. There are over 72 mammal species including four of the African Big Five and other animals such as giraffes, Uganda kobs, hartebeests, waterbucks, duikers and hippos.
