Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by your guide and taken on a city tour of Kigali. The tour includes a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, which provides insight into Rwanda’s history and resilience. You will also explore local markets and craft shops before having lunch in the city. After lunch, you will embark on a scenic 2.5-hour drive to Volcanoes national park, passing through rolling hills, lush tea plantations, and picturesque villages. Upon arrival, you will check in to your lodge and have the rest of the evening to relax and prepare for the first gorilla trek the following day. Dinner and overnight stay near Volcanoes National Park.

Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast at the hotel, you will begin the scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park, located in the northern part of Rwanda. The drive takes about 2-3 hours, offering views of the countryside, rural villages, and lush hills. Upon arrival at your lodge near the park, you will check in, have lunch, and spend the afternoon at leisure. You can relax or take a walk around the lodge. You will have dinner at the lodge and enjoy an overnight stay.

Day 3: First Gorilla Tracking Experience
After an early breakfast at the lodge, you will be transferred to the park headquarters for a briefing by the park rangers. The briefing will include guidelines on how to approach the gorillas and respect their habitat. Following the briefing, you will be assigned to a specific gorilla group based on your fitness level and preferences. The trek to find the gorillas typically lasts between 2-6 hours, depending on where the group is located. Once you find the gorillas, you will have one hour to observe them and take photos. After the trek, you will return to the lodge for lunch and relax for the afternoon. You can spend the rest of the day at leisure, exploring the area or participating in optional activities such as visiting a local village. In the evening, enjoy dinner at the lodge and overnight stay.

Day 4: Second Gorilla Tracking Experience
Today you will have your second gorilla tracking experience. After breakfast, you will head back to the park headquarters for a briefing on your second trek. You may be assigned a different gorilla group. The second trek will be a unique experience, as you will observe different behaviors and interactions among the gorillas. The trek usually lasts between 2-5 hours, depending on the gorilla group’s location. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, you can take to a visit to the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village for an insight into Rwandan traditions. Dinner will be served at the lodge, and you will spend another night there.

Day 5: Golden Monkey Tracking or Hike to Dian Fossey Tomb
After breakfast, you can choose between two optional activities. You can either embark on a golden monkey tracking experience or hike to the Dian Fossey Tomb. If you choose golden monkey tracking, you will be transferred to the park headquarters for a briefing. Golden monkeys are known for their playful nature, and the trek usually takes 3 to 4 hours. Once you find the monkeys, you will spend one hour observing them in their natural habitat. Alternatively, you can choose the Dian Fossey Tomb hike. The hike to the tomb is about 3 to 4 hours and takes you through dense forest to the site where Dian Fossey, the renowned gorilla conservationist, is buried. You will also visit her former research center and learn about her contributions to gorilla conservation. After return to the lodge for lunch and spend the afternoon at leisure. You can relax. Dinner will be served at the lodge, and you will spend the night there.

Day 6: Return to Kigali and Departure
After breakfast at the lodge, you will drive back to Kigali. The drive takes around 2-3 hours. Upon arrival in Kigali, you can explore the city depending on your flight schedule. If time permits, you can visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn about Rwanda’s history or shop for souvenirs at a local market. Afterward, you will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Your guide will then transfer you to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
