Your first stop is Mengo Hill, home to the Lubiri (Mengo Palace), the official residence of the Kabaka (King) of Buganda. Constructed in 1922, this historical site is surrounded by a vast expanse of traditional architecture and symbolic royal artifacts.

Cultural Markets of Kampala

Nakasero Market, located in the city center, is a well-organized fresh produce market where vendors sell pineapples, jackfruit, spices, flowers, and traditional herbs. You’ll interact with sellers and observe the variety of tropical crops grown across Uganda.
Owino Market (also known as Balikuddembe Market), located close by, is a lively labyrinth of second-hand clothes, shoes, crafts, electronics, and almost anything else imaginable. It’s one of the largest open-air markets in East Africa. The sounds, smells, and buzz give you an authentic feel of everyday Kampala.
Walk Through the Taxi Parks
You’ll continue to the Old and New Taxi Parks, both essential to understanding Kampala’s informal transport system.
At the Old Taxi Park, observe the controlled chaos of hundreds of minibuses (matatus) arriving and departing.
